A Day In The Life Of: Lisa Smith

Upon the moors of Nottinghamshire, the sun rises and birds sing to wake up our Training & Development Director, Lisa Smith.

Lisa is usually up 6:30am, IF she is washing her hair. If not, 7am is the time preferably.

It’s the bleedin drying that takes the whiz she says!

Once up – Coffee and a ciggy. A sweet smoky coffee whilst watching the sunrise.

Then it’s shower, make-up, dressed, and she’s OUT!

Some fruit, yoghurt & nuts are taken along with her for the journey into work, or she will whack porridge into the microwave once she’s arrived.

If Lisa is feeling a little bit naughty, it’s a cheeky sausage & bacon cob with brown sauce.

Lisa works from home every Monday & Friday, but much prefers to meet with everyone face to face, so from Tuesday – Thursday, she is loving it in the office.

First things first, Lisa sticks the kettle on and checks her emails, replying to or actioning anything that she can straight away! Otherwise, they’ll create a task which then will be added to her clearly not busy calendar…

The morning is usually spent doing admin & health and safety checks, getting all that fun out of the way, and then checking in with our Compliance Officer, Frankie.

As mentioned earlier, Lisa is the head of Training & Development with the company, so therefore, A LOT of training will be commenced.

She spends most of the day in training sessions with consultants.

This includes hourly sessions on teams, reviewing each of their training and advising their managers to help them achieve their goals.

Lisa is constantly planning the next training academy sessions to take place with consultants, either in group settings or solo.

Now it’s lunch time, Lisa will have a lovely stroll through the Ripley high street, getting those steps in. Off she’ll pop to have a browse in the local charity shops, then to Greggs or Costa. Other food options are available.

If there’s a little drop of rain in the air, lunch will be whatever is closest to her on her desk. Could be soup, baked beans…a desk calendar? Just whatever is there!

If she’s in the Ripley office, she will have a good old chinwag with her bestie Paula.

If she’s not in Ripley, Lisa basically lives in her car that’s constantly on the move.

All new starters will have a training plan that Lisa will always be updating.

This means setting tasks for each consultant, sending emails to branches, and calling each branch manager to let them know what they have made progress with.

If Lisa feels like she cannot train no more, she will often get in touch with external trainers to come in and train!

Constantly training these consultants man! Sometimes Lisa, maybe let them train themselves for once!

Lisa has a big involvement in our improvement club – which means meeting every few months with managers and seniors to discuss how to improve efficiency for the business.

Making sure to be constantly aware of any updates that are happening in the job world, and how any of it could potentially affect us a company.

Lisa is also our Health & Safely regulator. She is always checking in with seniors to make sure they are not going to die onsite, or that our office buildings aren’t going to explode!

Finally, it’s a quick check through the emails, then the 5pm home time bell rings.

Lisa! It’s time to go home! Stop training for one second and get off home!

Every night she can, Lisa will attend a dog walk with her other bestie and walk their dogs.
ANOTHER BESTIE?! Don’t look Paula!

Usually these communal walks will end up in the pub. Wahay! Proper British!

As her husband works away quite often, normally 6 out of 7 nights a week, they will be out for tea if he’s located in the homestead for the evening.

Once home, the lamps are on, the night is crawling in, it’s time for Tea & Tele!

Vera is the favourite, alongside Silent Witness. Big crime drama fan is Lisa.
