Essential was founded in 2006.
We had one clear objective, to uphold the ethical and moral stance in a business sector that was, in our opinion, in decline. Since 2006, our business has grown year on year even through difficult trading times. Branch openings have been achieved through organic growth with a measured approach and funded by the business to ensure self sustainability.
We strongly believe that to this day we have continually upheld our original objective by specifically working with businesses and individuals that share in our desire to be fair and equitable to all parties involved; Our Clients, Our Candidates, and Our Colleagues.
In 2021 Essential Recruitment became 100% Employee Owned. This landmark moment commemorated the loyalty and dedication of the 65% of employees that had been with the company for 3 or more years, embraced the enthusiasm and optimism of the newer staff members, and opened a world of opportunities to future colleagues.

How we do it?
“We do what we say we are going to do, when we say we are going to do it.” There is nothing worse when a service provider doesn’t deliver. At times the request can be difficult to achieve, this is when honesty and a consultative approach is required, and we aim to do both.
Our culture is to under promise and over deliver.
Will we always get it right? No is the honest answer, that doesn’t mean that we didn’t put every effort in but that we deal with people and this will always mean that human error will be a residing factor. However, we believe that an excellent service is not whether a problem will arise but what is done to prevent them and how they are dealt with when they do occur.
“Treat people as you wish to be treated.” Although this is a cliché phrase we do constantly try our best to be true to the meaning.

Why did you start this recruitment company?
We saw ethics and morals decline in the recruitment industry, and we wanted to be part of the solution rather than the problem. Since 2006, we’ve worked to provide our clients with an honest service ran by real, local people.

What makes your approach to recruitment different?
We focus on quality, not volume. We invest time in understanding each of our client’s businesses, cultures, and growth plans, allowing us to deliver candidates who are both highly qualified and share their vision for the future.
How do you ensure a good match between clients and candidates?
We spend time getting to know our clients and candidates.
For businesses, we speak to our contacts, perform job shadows, spend time on-site and do our own research to build a picture of what it is like to work there and what the client is looking for. It’s important for us to get a ‘feel’ for the right kind of candidate for their company culture, their values and of course, the role!
For candidates, we screen on the phone before meeting face-to-face. We ask questions about their past and also their future – we get to know what is important to them. We maintain an ongoing relationship so we can monitor how they are feeling through their new contract.

What type of roles do you typically work on?
Essential Recruitment typically recruits low to mid level skill / experience workers for warehouses, factories and offices on a temporary or temp-to-perm basis. Our permanent recruitment division, Essential Professional, recruits for the same industries but focuses on mid to high skill levels and experience. Between the two sides of our business, we are prepared to help you with any hire in the Commercial, Engineering or Industrial sectors.
What locations do you cover?
Our branches are situated in the Midlands and South Yorkshire. We cover Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and more. Essential Professional cover the whole of the UK.
