4 Things Agencies Can’t Control When You Work For Them

When working through an agency, sometimes things can happen that are completely out of our hands, these can include:

1. The length of your placement

One main reason that companies choose to work with an agency is because it helps them react to the demands of their business more efficiently, especially during peak times and quieter periods.

This means that we can’t always guarantee that your placement will be long term, as unforeseen circumstances can arise that affect the amount of workers that the company will require at any one time.

2. The pay rate

Pay rates are set by the company, not by the agency, so your hourly rate will be determined by the rates that the company themselves pay their staff.

The only influence an agency can provide in regards to pay rates is offering advice to the company about increasing their pay rate if we feel it’s not competitive in the market.

3. Whether you will be successful for a job you’ve been put forward for

Just because an agency has put you forward for a position, it doesn’t mean that you are guaranteed to be successful for that job. Just like any job interview, the interviewer will always choose the candidate(s) who they feel are the most suitable for the role. It will be down to the discretion of the company as to whether they offer you the position.

4. Whether you gain a permanent contract on a temp to perm placement

Just because you’re working a job that offers a temp to permanent opportunity, it doesn’t guarantee you’ll definitely receive a permanent contract. The decision on whether a company offers you a permanent contract will solely depend on you. They will be assessing your work ethic, punctuality, dedication and attitude towards the role, so if they feel you are hard worker and add value to their company then they will reward you with a permanent contract. If you’re late to work, not giving 110% into what you’re doing and/or having a poor attitude then it’s highly likely you won’t be offered a contract.

People can also make a lot of assumptions about agencies, so we have myth-busted some here
