We see comments being made within our Facebook groups speaking very negatively about temporary work. There’s many reasons and circumstances why someone may be in need of some short term work and we wanted to clear up what these reasons may be. There are also workers who choose to be temporary workers and turn down permanent contracts because this type of work suits them as an individual.
We have listed 11 reasons why this type of work is required:
1. Have recently relocated
Some people contact an agency for temporary work if they have or are soon to be relocating to a new area and will be in need of some work while they find a long term position in their new area.
2. Need work in between roles
You may be in need of temporary work in-between leaving your previous role and starting a new position to earn some money, or you may take up a temporary role while you find a new job and just need some work to pay the bills until you find your next permanent job.
3. Have recently been laid off
We have people contact us who have recently been made redundant from their job and need to get into work quickly to earn some money.
4. Need a temporary role while studying
Sometimes candidates who are studying will come and work a temporary role to earn some money to fund their studies and pay the bills until they are fully qualified and move into a job within that field.
5. Need a seasonal job
During the summer we have university students come back and work for us to earn some money while they are back at home, or some of our candidates will pick up extra work over Christmas if their factory placement is on Christmas shutdown.
6. Are looking to gain some work experience/gain new skills
Temporary work can be great for those who are looking to build their CV with some work experience, especially if you’ve recently left college/sixth form and need to get your foot in the door.
7. Would like to try a new role/sector before committing full time
You may be interested in trying a new career path but unsure if it’s right for you. A temporary placement enables you to try different roles within different sectors to gain a good understanding of what type of work you enjoy.
8. Want to earn some extra money
Temporary work enables you to pick up extra shifts alongside other jobs or commitments if you need to earn/save some extra money.
9. Preferred to be paid weekly
Some people like being paid weekly and don’t want to move to a monthly paying role. We have candidates working for us who’ve turned down permanent contracts as they want to stay on weekly pay.
10. Like the freedom of working different roles
We have candidates working for us who turn down permanent contracts as they prefer to have the freedom to move around between companies and roles, trying different types of roles and getting to know new teams of people as that is what works for them. Some people don’t want to be tied in to one job.
11. Need flexibility
Temporary work is used by some people who need the flexibility and control to pick and choose when they want and need to work. Read about how one of our Ripley candidate’s needs flexibility to enable him to earn money, but be able to hop on a plane at any time and go travel:
