In 2026, Essential Recruitment proudly celebrates 20 years in business.
What started with two offices in Mansfield and Ripley has grown into one of the region’s leading independent recruitment agencies, supporting employers and job seekers across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and beyond.
Over the past two decades, we’ve evolved, expanded and embraced change, but one thing has remained constant: Our commitment to connecting great people with great opportunities.

Where it all began
Essential Recruitment was founded in 2006 with a simple mission:
“To uphold the ethical and moral stance in a business sector that was, in our opinion, in decline.”
Starting from our Mansfield and Ripley offices, we quickly established a great reputation, and as our client base grew, so did our presence across the region. To this day, we still support some of those clients.
Today, we support businesses ranging from local independent manufacturers to nationally recognised brands, helping them attract the talent they need to thrive.
Growing across South Yorkshire and the Midlands
As demand for our services increased, so did our footprint.
Today, our teams operate across multiple locations, supporting employers and candidates throughout:
Alongside our regional presence, we also recruit nationally for permanent positions through our specialist division, Essential Professional.
Our local roots remain incredibly important to us, and we keep our offices in towns rather than cities to be closer to our candidates and clients.
Introducing Essential Professional
In 2021, we launched Essential Professional, our dedicated permanent recruitment division.
Created to meet increasing demand for specialist and professional permanent recruitment services, Essential Professional supports businesses nationwide with permanent hiring across a wide range of sectors for mid to high skilled vacancies.

That’s why we’re particularly proud of the loyalty and commitment demonstrated by our own team.
Today, Essential Recruitment employs 47 people.

Navigating COVID-19 together
One of the most challenging periods in our history came during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite significant uncertainty across the recruitment market, Essential Recruitment continued supporting both businesses and temporary workers throughout the crisis.
During this period, as well as our internal employees, we also successfully furloughed 219 temporary workers, helping protect livelihoods while supporting our clients through unprecedented circumstances.
Becoming Employee-Owned
In 2021, we took one of the most significant steps in our company’s history.
Essential Recruitment became an Employee Owned business.
This move ensured that our future success would be shared with the people who help create it every day.
Employee Ownership reflects our long-held belief that investing in people creates stronger businesses, better service and a more sustainable future.
Today, Employee Ownership remains a key part of our culture and one of the things that makes Essential Recruitment unique.
Building communities online
Recruitment has changed dramatically over the last 20 years.
While face to face relationships remain at the core of what we do, we’ve also embraced new ways of connecting with job seekers.
