Anti Slavery Day 2022

It’s easy to believe that we’re past the age of slavery, but with almost 8000 potential victims referred to the Home Office alone, we know there is still a long way to go.

From 1 April – 30 June 2022:

  • 4171 potential victims referred (10% increase on previous period)
  • 79% were male, 21% female
  • 54% of referrals claimed exploitation as adults
  • 39% of referrals claimed exploitation as children
  • The most common claim for adults (41%) is Labour Exploitation
  • The most common claim for children (44%) is Criminal Exploitation

Every year we try to find new ways to spread awareness of the prevalence of Modern Day Slavery. This year we wanted to focus on the freedoms that most of us have, and those which we might take for granted.

We also visited some of our clients to inform them of the signs of modern day slavery, and the help signal designed to alert others that an individual needs help.

Our Donation

As in previous years, we wanted to show our support for the valuable work being carried out by Anti-Slavery charities in the UK. This year we decided to donate to City Hearts and Hope for Justice who are working towards ending Modern Slavery by:

City Hearts:
“We provide immediate and long-term support to survivors of modern slavery, meeting the physical and emotional needs of survivors and equipping them to live independently.”

Hope for Justice:
“We exist to bring an end to modern slavery by preventing exploitation, rescuing victims, restoring lives, and reforming society.”
