6 Things no one tells you when you start an office job

If you do or have ever worked in an office you can probably relate to this!

If this is your first office job, here’s what you can expect to experience…

1. Becoming a little too comfortable about discussing your private life

When you work in an office, you’ll start discussing your private life with your colleagues – they’ll start to become the person/people who you to come first for advice and once you’re work besties there will be no filter – you’ll end up confessing your deepest, darkest secrets ?

2. Gaining a few extra pounds

As I’m sure most people who work in an office will admit, is that you can tend to experience putting on a few extra pounds in your first year or two.

Snacking generally becomes a regular part of your routine when you work in an office – some even choose to home a snack draw in their desk.

It can become really hard to say no when everyone is ordering breakfast, you have a cob van pull up in the car park or it’s someone’s birthday and the cake is getting passed around!

3. You’ll develop a coffee addiction

Coffee will become your best friend. Don’t be surprised if you start relying on two or three coffees to get you through the morning (if you aren’t already obsessed with coffee that is!).

4. You’ll discuss the most random things

One way to pass the time is to chat and you’ll end up having some weird conversations, whether that’s discussing the latest conspiracy theory or what the world was like if Dinosaurs were still here. There is no limit on the crazy stuff you talk about at the office.

5. You’ll put the world to rights

In an office, you’ll tend to have the radio going all day, hearing the latest news updates and having your say! Don’t get me wrong, a work environment is not the place to get all wrapped up in your political beliefs but you’ll end up discussing the latest human rights issues, climate change, animal rights and more.

6. Betting on ‘who’s next’

At some point you’ll find yourself putting bets on ‘who’s next’.. not actual bets but pretend ones. We all end up discussing who’s the most likely to get married next, get pregnant next or hand their notice in. We all love a bit of office drama and gossip.
