6 Essential Items For Your First Day At The Office

So you’ve landed your first office job, but unsure what to take on your first day?

Not to worry, here’s everything you need…

1. A notepad and pen

You’re probably going to need to take a whole load of notes when you first start your job, as there will be lots of things to learn and remember. By taking your own notepad it makes you look prepared, plus you can choose which design which want! (Trust me, when you work in an office there is such a satisfactory feeling about buying a brand new notepad).

You will also look prepared by bringing your own pen, remember to check beforehand that they are working and to be even extra prepared, bring a few in case one of your pens stops working.

2. Lunch / Water bottle

For your first day we would recommend taking a pre packed lunch with you, especially if you’re not familiar with the surrounding areas of the office and aren’t sure what local amenities are available. This way you are guaranteed to have something to eat at lunch and you can go exploring the local area on your dinner break.

We would also recommend taking a bottle of water with you, a lot of people get nervous on their first day and a bottle of water will help you to be prepared in case you get a dry mouth or need to take a drink. On your first day you can familiar yourself with the kitchen facilities so you can top up your water if needed, find the office glassware etc.

3. A mug

You’ll find that in most offices each person has their own designated mug for tea and coffee. You can also choose the the design of your mug too!

4. A diary

A diary can become your best friend! It’s a great way to help you to be organised when you need to take note of important dates, meetings etc, and means you won’t forget!

4. A desk calendar

A little calendar on your desk is another great way to be organised. You can highlight important dates on your desk calendar to remind you, and then refer to your diary if you can’t remember why you highlighted them!

5. Snacks

When you’re sat at a desk all day, your future self will really appreciate having some snacks on hand. It’s almost impossible to not want to snack when you’re working a desk job.

6. Folder and Clear Wallets

On your first day you can often receive bits of paper with important information, instructions, policies and procedures etc. By bringing a folder and clear wallets you have somewhere to keep all your pieces of paper together so they don’t get lost or damaged.
