Pay increase for Aldi Warehouse Workers

7,000 Aldi Warehouse workers will receive an increase to their pay rates from February 2023. 

 

Aldi has 11 regional distribution centres across the UK, where their warehouse workers will see their minimum wage rate increase from £11.48 to £13.18 per hour. 

 

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK said:

1,200 Amazon Warehouse workers at risk of losing their job due to warehouse closures

3 Amazon Warehouses are planned to be closed, including their Doncaster Balby Carr Bank warehouse. 

 

An Amazon spokesperson told the BBC that the decision to close the UK warehouses was made after a review of operations in the country. 

 

Amazon have announced that the affected workers will be offered the chance to move to other Amazon locations. Amazon do operate two other warehouses in Doncaster. 

 

However, this still leaves many jobs at risk as they employ around 400 workers at their Doncaster Balby centre. The GMB Union Officer, Steve Garelick, said:

 

It may be difficult for workers to take roles further away from their homes…Amazon workers can’t suddenly be expected to up sticks and move to a different fulfilment centre which may be many miles away.” 

300 jobs at risk from factory closure in Staffordshire

It has been announced that Premier Foods, the company behind ‘Mr Kipling’, will be closing one of it’s manufacturing sites in Staffordshire.

 

The closure of it’s Knighton site means that around 300 workers will be affected and at risk of losing their job. 

 

Premier Foods have said that their decision to close this site is due to the location being ‘loss-making’. 

400 jobs at risk as Co-op announce closure of Leicester distribution centre

The Co-op has announced plans to close three warehouses, affecting around 400 warehouse jobs at their Leicester site. 

 

It’s Leicester Distribution Centre, located on Braunstone Frith Industrial Estate, held three premises including a modern chilled food and drink distribution building. 

 

The Co-op has decided to make the entire workforce redundant as it plans to relocate. 

New warehouse park approved in Castle Donington

Approval has been given to build a giant industrial park in Castle Donington.

 

The development will be located on land south of Junction 1 of the A50, covering 49 hectares of land, and is expected to create thousands of new jobs in the area.

10% pay rise for Poundstretcher's Leicestershire Warehouse Workers

Poundland have announced a pay rise for the 2nd year running for their employees, including their warehouse workers at their distribution centre in Kirby Muxloe. 

 

Poundland owner Aziz Tayub, said: 

“This will be the second year in a row we will have introduced a second pay rise in the same year for our store colleagues…We wanted to do more to support them and to say thank you for their commitment to quality service and customer care.”

 

Poundland workers received the first 10% pay rise as a reward for their hard work post-pandemic, and the 2nd 10% pay rise will help their employees in the current economic climate.  

 

Poundland have said that the pay increase will come into effect from from April 1st 2023.
