Welcome to the team: Emily Roberts

Meet Emily, one of the most recent additions to our Barnsley team!

We asked Emily how she got into the role: “Funnily enough I fell into the job by accident, I’d come to Essential looking for work and the job I had started just wasn’t for me. After speaking to the Branch Manager, Amy, she asked me if I’d ever considered a career in recruitment. I will be honest, I hadn’t! But after speaking to her about the role I knew I had to go for it and now here I am!

Before joining essential I was running my own business. I had a sewing school and taught people to sew. I taught both young and old and how to sew anything such as cushions, curtains, their own clothes, the list goes on. I have also worked in retail since I was 18 along side running my business. Like so many, COVID made me re-think everything and although running a sewing business and recruitment seem worlds apart you would be surprised at the similarities I have come across!

I have only been at Essential for just over 2 weeks and already learned so much. I have been involved in the main day to day jobs such as signing candidates up and processing payroll, but mainly looking after one of our biggest clients, Haywood and Padgett and learning everything I need to know about what I need to do for them.”

We asked whether Emily would recommend a role in Recruitment to other people in her position…

“Absolutely! I feel like I am the walking advertisement of trying something you haven’t done before as you end up being pleasantly surprised. The thing I love the most is that no two days are the same which has always been important to me when looking for a job. I love speaking to the wide array of people involved in recruitment. I’m also a big believer in that everyday is a school day and every day I am learning new things.”

When asked what she will bring to the team, Emily replied…
“I think I am always up for a challenge which is an important part of recruitment, I’m not afraid to say no. I am extremely motivated to always do my very best but also know how to learn from my mistakes.”

Outside of work, Emily fills her spare time with creative hobbies…
“As you may have guessed I love sewing so this is certainly something I do for fun, I like to make my own clothes when I get chance and I have two twin nephews due to be born in January so I am sure I will be making things for them. I also have the most loving and energetic cocker spaniel called Freddie, so me and my boyfriend often spend our spare time with him and taking him on walks and new adventures.”
