This week (May 13th-19th) is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is movement – so we’re challenging our staff to walk as many miles as they can!
The leaderboard is set, the rules have been laid out, the fierce competition ‘banter’ can be heard loud and clear… all that is left now is get walking!
Walking is so important for both our physical and mental wellbeing – you can benefit from the below by getting more active!:
- Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Exercise releases endorphins, natural mood boosters that combat stress and anxiety. It’s a really good way to clear your head after a difficult day.
- Improved Sleep: Regular exercise contributes to better sleep quality, which in turn has a positive impact on your mental health.
- Mood Boosting: Walking outdoors can connect you with nature, which is proven to improve mood and ease symptoms of depression.
- Increased Energy Levels: Even a short walk on your lunch break can leave you feeling more energised.
- Sharpened Focus: Walking improves cognitive function, meaning better focus throughout the day.
Whilst this is a great spotlight on mental health, the importance of raising awareness of the support systems in place to help those suffering must continue beyond this week.
We have a dedicated section on our website to offer resources – find it here.
Check back in with us next week to see how many miles we managed to walk!
