We welcomed Tom into the Marketing team in May 2021, impressed with his Graphic Design skills and eye for creativity! Here’s what he has to say about working for Essential as a Marketing Assistant for the past two months:
What made you apply for the role at Essential Recruitment?
“I know two people who work for companies that we provide candidates for. They were mentioning how efficient and easy their whole application process was, so I thought I’d see what sort of jobs were available for me on the website. Lo and behold, a job for a Marketing Assistant was up! Reading through the job description and seeing the key points being advertised, it was too good of an opportunity to give up, and for it to be my first company role after graduating from University”.
Tell us a bit about your current role. What are your main duties? What are you responsible for?
“Well my job title is ‘Marketing Assistant’. My job is to receive any roles that recruitment consultants get through, I put them out on the website to advertise for any potential candidates to see and apply! Along side that, I use my creative design background to make graphics to promote the jobs that come through on social media. There’s a fair few more tasks that come along with that, such as social media managing, keeping the website up to date, and company newsletters. As time is going on, I’m being allowed to explore more creative ways of getting the companies name out there, such as exploring more video content, with film and animation, and rebranding.”
Let’s talk about your past work experience. What did you do before joining Essential?
“I graduated from university in 2019, gaining a degree in Digital Design. During my time there, I worked some typical retail jobs, just to get me through them pesky uni bills! I then became a Freelance Illustrator in the past year or so. I produced artwork for clients in places such as Norwich, London, and even Czech Republic! I would be asked to illustrate a varied amount of projects, from record company promo’s, to a DJ’s YouTube Channel.”
Would you recommend others to join Essential? If so, why? What parts of the job do you enjoy the most?
“I definitely would recommend Essential! Everyone in the company has been super friendly and welcoming, you’re allowed to be whoever you want to be, and no one is constantly looking over your shoulder to get something done! There’s a real sense of comradery within this company, and everyone is so open minded and willing to talk about anything on your mind.”
What do you think you bring to the team?
“I think I bring more of a creative/design eye to the team. My years of experience through different sectors of the creative industry, such as film making, graphic design, and illustration, I think makes me a unique aspect of the company”.
Tell us about about your personal life – what do you do for fun?
“One of my favourite things to do is illustration. I spend a lot of my free time practicing and drawing concepts for a little story idea I’ve got in my head. Relating to that, I love to read comic books and manga, and video games is always a must almost every night, most notably the Nintendo variety! I’ve got two dogs, Mildred the Golden Retriever, and Robin the Golden Retriever/Husky (She’s Mildred’s daughter!). Another huge passion of mine is plants, both indoor and outdoor, I can never have too many house plants, and I love to spend time thinking of ideas for my garden, and then producing said ideas! The dogs love to help me with gardening, and by help I mean carry any sticks away and eat grass!”
