We would walk (almost) 500 miles and we might walk 500 more…

Last week, we held a walking challenge for our staff, and they absolutely smashed it!

They walked a staggering total of 325.77 miles between them! That would be the equivalent of walking from the west coast of Wales to the east coast of England!

Before we reveal the person who walked the furthest, there’s something even more important to celebrate – everyone who took part raved about the positive impact it had on their well-being! Clearer heads, reaching fitness goals, and an overall boost in both mental and physical health – which was exactly the intention behind the challenge, which was in aid of Mental Health Awareness week.

Here are some of the amazing things that happened during the challenge:

  • Sarah’s secret weapon: Turns out, those short, daily dog walks really add up! Sarah has one lucky pup (and that pup has one dedicated owner!).
  • Kate’s high-tech advantage: Kate from Worksop has bluetooth shoes that track her steps! That’s 2024 for ya…
  • Rob’s epic journey: This champion walked all the way to a Tesco in another town!
  • Frankie’s multitasking masterclass: “Collect then neglect” – genius way to get those steps in after picking up the kids! We see you, Frankie!
  • Lunchtime inspiration: A few participants got those steps in during their 1 hour lunch breaks. Get away from those desks and stretch your legs, people!
  • The Rob vs. Charlie smackdown: There was some serious competition brewing there! We love a little healthy rivalry.

Alright, alright, enough suspense! Who did the most..?!

Drumroll please…

With a crazy 56 miles clocked in just one week, a massive congrats goes to Rob. Go take a long nap – your legs deserve it!

Rob 55.92

Summer 34.53
Frankie 26.34

So many people have carried on the challenge into the next week, and they show no signs of stopping!

Why not challenge your workplace to a walking challenge and see the benefits for yourselves?

We’re donating to Combat Stress to honour this achievement, and to help provide treatment and support for British Armed Forces veterans – a choice made by our own ex-squaddie Rob, as a reward for his 1st place finish. Read more about the work they do here: https://combatstress.org.uk/
