Upcoming recruitment challenges: April 2025

April brings multiple important legislation updates that could significantly impact the world of employment:

Effective from 1 April 2025, the NLW for workers aged 21 and over will rise by 6.7%, from £11.44 to £12.21 per hour.

Starting 6 April 2025, employer contributions on salaries exceeding £5,000 will increase to 15%, impacting overall payroll expenses.

From 6 April 2025, employees with children born on or after this date will be entitled to statutory neonatal leave and pay, introducing new considerations for employer leave policies.

Employers with over 250 staff will need to extend pay gap reporting to include ethnicity and disability, alongside gender, enhancing transparency and promoting equality.

The UK Home Office has announced new visa and sponsorship fees effective April 2025, affecting employers who rely on overseas talent.

Changes to the Skilled Worker visa route, including adjustments to salary thresholds and compliance requirements, will impact employers’ recruitment strategies.

With inflation at 3%, exceeding the Bank of England’s 2% target, and upcoming tax hikes, including higher National Insurance contributions from April 1, employers may face increased operational costs and wage pressures.
