Anti-Slavery Week 2024

Did you know 1 in 150 people worldwide are living in conditions of modern slavery?

During Anti-Slavery Week, 14th – 20th October, we’ve been taking action to spread awareness about the shocking reality that an estimated 50 million people are living in modern slavery globally, with 136,000 in the UK alone. That’s 10 million more than when the Global Slavery Index was last published in 2018—a shocking and heartbreaking reality.

Our team has been out in full force, visiting clients and candidates, raising awareness about the signs of modern slavery and how they can help prevent exploitation and report suspicious activities. For more information on how to identify the signs of modern slavery, visit Anti-Slavery International: Spot the Signs of Slavery.

At Essential, we take this issue seriously, our compliance team plays a crucial role in safeguarding against Modern Day Slavery. They monitor for any warning signs, ask the right questions, audit our records and train our staff to ensure no one within our business is at risk.

Here's a preview of some of our activity from across the week:

Fit-tober Challenge!

Our Compliance Manager Frankie Patton and Operations Manager Amy Wheat, have taken on the Fit-tober Challenge this October. They asked the Essential team to vote for which challenge they should take on: Squatober, Liftober, Planktober, Abtober or combine them all!

And we voted to combine them all! Here’s their schedule:

London Landmarks Half Marathon!

Next April, our Operation Managers Rob Wilson & Lauren Dolby are taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon on behalf of Essential Recruitment to raise awareness and funds for Anti-Slavery International.

Modern slavery can be happening closer than we think, and it’s crucial we all do our part to raise awareness, spot the signs and take action.

Together, we can help end this. If you suspect modern slavery, report it to the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700 or the police on 101. In emergencies, always call 999. Let’s stand together against slavery – you could make the difference that saves a life.
