Yard Operative – Barnsley
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a local company in Barnsley. This family-run business within the metal recycling industry is looking for a committed yard operative to join their team. You will be supported by experienced professionals who will provide full training to help you build a long-term career.

Hours of work:
Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
No weekend work!
Pay:
£12.21 per hour (rising to £12.85 per hour after probation)
Contract type:
Full-time, permanent

Role responsibilities:
- Stripping down and sorting metals, raw materials, and electrical cables
- Using tools such as grinders, saws, and alligator shears to prepare materials
- Dismantling transformers, switch gears, and gas units
- Separating a variety of materials in the non-ferrous area
- Degassing units
- Loading and unloading materials from vehicles
- Maintaining a clean and tidy work area
- Following all company procedures and health & safety standards
- Various other duties once fully trained
Role requirements:
- Must be seeking a long-term career
- Experience in burning/welding is essential
- Fit and healthy due to the physical nature of the role
- Previous experience in a similar role is beneficial but not essential
- Willingness to learn and a positive, ‘can do’ attitude
- Full UK driving licence beneficial but not essential
- FLT or overhead crane experience advantageous
- Willingness to complete regular drugs and alcohol tests
- Excellent attention to detail
