Hours: 45 hours per week | Monday to Friday, Rotating shifts of 5am – 2pm and 12pm- 9pm / Early finish on a Friday – working alternative weekends

 

This Mechanical Fitter role is with a specialist engineering and maintenance business but will be based on-site at one of their key locations in Wolverhampton.

The site specialises in the production of a wide range of materials manufactured in small batch quantities to meet specific customer requirements.

Working as part of the maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and performance of plant and production equipment, supporting operations through both planned and reactive maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities of a Mechanical Fitter:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on machinery and plant equipment.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults to minimise downtime and ensure production targets are met.
  • Responding to plant breakdowns in a timely and effective manner.
  • Fabricating, assembling, and installing mechanical components and pipework.
  • Performing welding and oxy/propane cutting tasks as required.
  • Working from engineering drawings, specifications, and technical blueprints.
  • Completing routine inspections and maintenance checks across the site.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment, and callipers accurately.
  • Fitting bearings, shafts, motors, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, and other mechanical components.
  • Assisting with machinery installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and reporting any issues identified.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with company policies and health & safety regulations.
  • Supporting colleagues and working collaboratively within the engineering and maintenance team.

 

Experience & Skills Required:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, or similar engineering role.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, production, industrial, or heavy engineering environment.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience with mechanical repairs, installation, fabrication, and assembly work.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, pumps, motors, and gearboxes would be advantageous.
  • Fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good awareness of health and safety practices within an industrial environment.
