Engineer – Electrical Bias, Gainsborough | £48,395 per annum

A great opportunity has arisen for an Engineer – Electrical Bias to join a fast‑paced manufacturing site in Gainsborough. You’ll be part of a collaborative engineering team responsible for keeping high‑speed production and packaging machinery running safely, efficiently, and reliably.

 

Shift Pattern

The successful candidate will initially work days while completing training. Once fully trained, you will transition onto the following rotating shift pattern:

  • Week 1: Mon–Tues (Days), Thurs–Fri (Nights) 12 hours shifts
  • Week 2: Wed–Fri (Days) 12 hours shifts
  • Week 3: Mon–Wed (Nights) 12 hours shifts

As part of the engineering team, you’ll support all departments across the site, working on both mechanical and electrical equipment. Your focus will be on maintaining machine uptime, delivering planned maintenance, reacting to breakdowns, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured PPM activities to maximise equipment reliability.
  • Prioritise and resolve faults quickly to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain high‑speed packaging, printing and ancillary equipment.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance, calibration, testing and repairs.
  • Work with external engineers and suppliers when required.
  • Participate in CI, 5S and lean initiatives to improve site performance.
  • Support engineering and operations teams with improvement projects.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance across all tasks.
  • Provide clear communication between shifts to maintain continuity.

 

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 qualification (or time‑served equivalent)
  • Multi‑skilled capability with an electrical bias is essential
  • 3–5 years’ experience in an engineering role
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Good understanding of health & safety principles
  • Flexibility, initiative, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving
  • Competence with Microsoft Office
  • Full UK driving licence and your own transport
  • Ideal Background/ Job Titles – Shift Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Electrical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Technician, Mechanical Fitter, Multi‑Skilled Engineer, Maintenance Electrician. Ideally worked in manufacturing, engineering or FMCG or packaging.
