A day in the life of – Bethany Roberts

Beth is a Recruitment Consultant based at our Worksop office. Beth loves a drink made clear by the fact she rarely remembers her weekend. Beth loves Game Of Thrones and is proud to tell everyone she’s watched every episode at least 3 times…

Beth’s morning is an unusual one. She’s woken up not by an alarm, but by the on call phone ringing at 5am. Shock, someone isn’t going to work! She hears the standard excuse of ‘my Mum’s Sister’s Auntie’s Friend’s cat has died so I can’t come in…’ Yes, that is standard for us! Beth then has the wonderful job of informing the client and trying to justify why that is a valid reason for the temp not arriving to work. After all of that, Beth can go back to bed for those extra precious minutes… well, until the next call comes in! ‘Ring Ring’ Beth answers half asleep to another Temp explaining why they can’t get to work – their neighbour’s windscreen wiper is broken? Like that was a determining factor to whether you could get to work? Well never fear the buses are here… Beth has to work out the bus route for a candidate to arrive to work. He may arrive 5 minutes late but it’s better than not turning up at all! This tends to happen all morning and inbetween getting ready. Putting fires out as they appear, Beth is definitely being wasted here! Does Firewoman Beth have a good ring to it?

Beth will arrive to work at 7.50am on the dot everyday. She’ll do all the standard meets and greets, turn her computer on and  put her dinner in the fridge (that her Dad makes her everyday – still living the sweet life at 23!). In the Worksop office they’ve had to make a “Brew Rota” as poor Lisa Smales (Administrator) would always make the brews, even if she wasn’t having one! The rota has brought balance to the office, well until it’s your day to make 5 brews… The Worksop team are partial to two things, brews and Maccies breakfast. Everyone’s order is dependent on whether they’re on a diet or not. If they’re not it’s 2 of everything, if they are only 1 of everything, after all 1 is never enough…

In-between waiting for Uber Eats, the team will have their DRM (Daily Review Meeting). They talk about their activities for the day and plan out targets for the week. One of Beth’s favourite things to do in a morning is “Do 10 by 10″ in other words try and  make 10 sales calls before 10am. It sounds so simple but the tiniest of distractions can capture Beth’s attention! Whether that be Yasmin telling the team about the time she went out and woke up in a field, Angelika laughing at one of her own jokes or Beth getting the faintest whiff of her two sausage and egg McMuffins on their way! The office is a busy place, temps arriving and leaving, the phone ringing and buzzing and the delivery man justifying to Yasmin why he’s 5 minutes late…

Time flies when you’re munching food, so by the time the team have eaten their food and completed their morning tasks it’s their second favourite time of the day – Dinner time – but don’t worry, the team are on their second diet of the day. They’ll go to Sainsbury’s, walk straight past the fruit and veg aisle and head to the bakery… and pick up their now compulsory Friday order, doughnuts and cookies. They call it the Friday treat but who are they fooling… If it isn’t clear already, food is an integral part of the daily running’s of the Worksop team. There’s only one drawback on a Friday, and it hinges on one simple factor – what has Beth brought for dinner? As her dad is a Chef he”ll make her some fancy dinner no doubt, but one thing is certain, it always has fish in it. It’ll leave some fishy aroma lingering in the office all day, which isn’t so bad for Beth as she’s become immune, but for the team it’s borderline modern day torture.

The Worksop team’s entertainment for the afternoon consists of Yasmin sharing another story, Beth showing off how she got dragged out of a club by 3 bouncers for being “blindo” and the rest of the team just watching in amazement… After periodically filling bookings for tonight’s and tomorrow’s shifts, chasing a few sales leads and maintaining relationships with existing clients it approaches the end of the day… Well for most branches anyway, the team rarely get out before 5.30pm at the moment as they’re that busy! Before leaving, the team will share their plans for the long weekend ahead and banter Beth about how she’ll probably end up being dragged out of a club somewhere in the early hours…

On her way out of the door, Beth will debate whether to go to the gym or not. She comes to the realisation she probably should after the Maccies breakfast and various baked goods she’s consumed during the day. She’ll do her work out and head home to start getting ready for tonight whilst intermittently watching Game Of Thrones and pausing it to answer the on call phone…
